Kean Kavanagh returns with ‘Summer Nights’, announces headline show

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Soft Boy Records artist hits up Whelan’s this December with some special guests.

It’s been a minute since Kean Kavanagh has shared new music, but the Soft Boy Records artist has come through with his first new release since 2020’s Dog Person.

Summer Nights’ swings between a state of serenity aided by Ryan Hargadon on the sax before flying off the handle into the kind of freewheeling energy we were familiarised with in ‘EMMA’.

Talking about the new song, Kean says,”I wrote this song about a recurring dream I was having the past year, and it was kind of disturbing me so I wrote and recorded the song to try and change the way that I associate with it.”

“I wrote and recorded most of the instruments myself and then I got Ryan Hargadon in at the end to record some additional synths and some sax to finish it off.”

It comes after Kean featured on the Everything Is Recorded project FRIDAY FOREVER alongside the likes of Ghostface Killah and Berwyn. More recently Kean performed at AVA Festival in Belfast with fellow record label member Kojaque and had credits on the rapper’s debut album Town’s Dead.

Alongside the single, Kean Kavanagh has announced a headline show at Whelan’s Dublin on 19 December 2021.

Tickets €14.35 on sale Friday 1 October 2021 10.00 from Ticketmaster.ie
