KK Lewis Contrasts Escapism and the Everyday Mundane in New Music Video ‘One Step Behind’

Words: Rachel Hannon

KK Lewis crashes a work party in her new music video for her track ‘One Step Behind’.

But KK Lewis herself is far from being a step behind. Aside from her music endeavours, she is also a co-founder of Sun Flower Sessions, a pigeon fanatic, and a style icon. Having just returned from supporting BIIRD, KK Lewis now graces us with the video for her new track, which officially drops tomorrow.

The Dublin-based singer-songwriter is fast becoming one of Ireland’s most emotionally resonant, vulnerable, and authentic new voices. Her music explores heartbreak, comparison, and the uncertainty of your twenties, which is exactly at the heart of this track.

Directed by Órla Morris Toolen, the video depicts KK Lewis as the main character breaking away from the chains of a rigid office lifestyle. Colour plays a huge part in the visuals of this, with predominantley grey tones shaping cold office atmosphere, with subtle pink tones in KK’s work attire, with a final emergence of a warm sunny field and beach. The stark contrast between these landscapes evokes the idea of imagination and escapism verses a mundane setting.  This theme is also explored through the intimate, rich vocal tones of KK Lewis, and the intricate instrumentation that underscores the track.

Although the video officially releases tomorrow, Thursday June 4, here is the District Music world exclusive premiere.
