Listen to Citrus Fresh’s debut album ‘Operating System’

Words: Dylan Murphy

Hailing from Limerick, Citrus’ album is proof he’s one of Ireland’s most boundary-pushing rappers.

Px spitter Citrus Fresh has today shared his long-awaited debut album Operating System. A conceptual piece that sees each track being processed as a file on the Px Music studio computer, it cements Citrus’ position as one of Ireland’s most boundary-pushing artists.

Taking a large dose of inspirational from contemporary jazz and prog rock, it sees Citrus forgo any established formula as he crafts experimental anthems for difficult times.

Haunting tracks such as ‘Methadone’ highlight Citrus’ penchant for unpredictable rhythms and abstract delivery styles, while ‘Fishing’ is another example of his natural chemistry with fellow south west natives Hazey Haze and Strange Boy.

This collaborative spirit lives throughout the album as he invites the likes of Aswell, Hazey Haze, MuRli, Strange Boy and Axel Ekermann onboard.

The album is completely produced by Citrus Fresh, 40Hurtz and Danny Lanham, with extensive use of original, live instrumentation throughout.
