Matthew Harris remains hopeful in ‘A Difficult Winter’

Words: Dylan Murphy

Production maestro Matthew Harris steps out from behind the boards for his new solo single.

Last night, Matthew Harris shared the video for ‘A Difficult Winter’. It comes after a string of collaborations with Malaki, Nealo, Jeorge II and Gemma Bradley and sees Harris take an introspective turn.

Matthew has routinely highlighted his ability to extract intense emotions in his instrumental work and he has channelled that same energy in his compelling vocal performance in ‘A Difficult Winter’.

Feeling as comfortable crafting dusty hip hop efforts as he is producing head-nodding RnB, his latest offering pushes the breaks on his freewheeling style in favour of a more intimate approach. ‘A Difficult Winter’ is another diverse addition to an increasingly versatile catalogue that highlights an unpredictability that keeps listeners on their toes.

Marking a new era for Matthew, ‘A Difficult Winter‘ is a vivid reflection on a challenging year.

Speaking on the track Matthew said, “The song was written in a day and I knew it was something I wanted to record and finish quickly. I lost my mother to cancer earlier this year and I found Christmas under Covid to be incredibly hard – a lot of the lyrics definitely came out of that sense of loss and isolation.”
