Meechy Darko announces debut solo album ‘Gothic Luxury’, shares ‘Kill Us All’

Words: Dylan Murphy

Meech, one third of Flatbush Zombies, releases a sharp single from his forthcoming solo album.

In the last ten years, Flatbush Zombies have cemented their place as innovators in alternative hip hop. Their seminal mixtape BetterOffDead continues to influence nearly ten years later, they subverted expectations on Vacation In Hell and their debut album 3001: A Laced Odyssey highlighted their prowess as some of rap’s most cinematic forces.

In recent years, each of their members has voiced their desire to release solo works and with Erick The Architect becoming the first to share a solo project in his Future Proof EP, Meechy Darko has now revealed he is up next.

Executively produced by Dot Da Genius and mixed by Grammy Award-winning Neal Pogue, Gothic
Luxury will be released on August 26 via Loma Vista Recordings. Following the killing of his father by Miami police in 2020, the album is an important and entirely necessary work for the Flatbush rapper.

“I had no choice but to make this the most personal thing I’ve ever done because fortunately or unfortunately, I’m in an extremely soul-stirring part of my life right now,” he says. “Who I was yesterday may not be who I am tomorrow. I’m not who I was last week. There’s no telling who I’ll be next year or the year after, so it’s very important to capture this while I can still feel.”

To announce the album, he’s released ‘Kill Us All’, which lands alongside a bright and twisted video.
