The Festival

Me Auld Flower will kick off the St Patrick’s weekend festivities in Dublin. It aims to bring the best of Ireland together to recreate the buzz of the old market with a “distinctly modern take”. The event will focus on Irish food and drink culture by mixing an array of carefully curated restaurants, chefs, producers, distillers, brewers and makers under the one-storied roof.

The tickets are twenty-two euros each if secured in advance and twenty-four on the door. There will be two separate queues on the day so it is recommended you book in advance. We all know Paddy’s Day is a nightmare for the queue averse.

Paddy’s Weekend

Taking place as part of the St. Patrick’s Festival ‘One City’ Programme for 2023, Me Auld Flower will bring a new audience to this iconic market. The building originally opened its doors in 1892 and served the Dublin wholesale market and public for 127 years. It was forced to close its doors in 2019. 

Me Auld Flower is rooted in the day-to-day contemporary world of Irish food and drink, designed with Dubliners in mind. It will be “a showcase and celebration of what is great about this very specific aspect of our culture”. According to the press-release, “this is an event with heart, soul, smarts and flavour — not your average Paddy’s Day cliché”.

What to Expect

Ticket holders should expect to experience ‘a melting pot of great Irish food, from fresh oysters to world-class charcuterie and cheese’. There’s also talk on the press release about ‘cheeky bacon and cabbage dumplings and a Michelin-star bowl of coddle”.

Of course, there will be pints, wine, Irish craft beers, whiskeys and spirits on offer, with excellent cocktails to boot. There will be demos, classes, tastings, signature dishes and workshops on the Bastecamp and Brewcamp stages. The old yard will be heating things up with a live-fire cooking area with top chefs and pitmasters.

Me Auld Flower offers the chance to celebrate Paddy’s day by eating all around it. Or by raising a glass — or a knife and fork, a spoon, or a pair of chopsticks — to our national holiday.
