Nicolas Cage set to play Joe Exotic in a new scripted television series

Variety revealed that Cage will play the eccentric and now jailed Joe Exotic of ‘Tiger King’ fame.

As people became quarantined across the globe, Netflix added Tiger King to its library. Queue petitions, an unholy amount of memes and many looking back at Louis Theroux’s early chat with him.

Now it has been revealed in an article from Variety that none other than Nicolas Cage will play Joe Exotic – the now imprisoned, former exotic park owner in a scripted series.

Made up of eight episodes, the Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios series is based on the Texas Monthly Article ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,’ by Leif Reigstad.

It also marks Nicolas Cage’s first television project.

According to Variety, “Dan Lagana will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer under his overall deal at CBS TV Studios with Paul Young executive producing via Make Good Content. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Samie Kim Falvey will executive produce for Imagine. Cage will executive produce via Saturn Films. Scott Brown and Megan Creydt will executive produce for Texas Monthly. Imagine’s James Seidman and Natalie Berkus are overseeing the project for the company.”

Lagana previously was the showrunner on Emmy-nominated mockumentary series ‘American Vandal’.

The new series will focus on the exotic animal owner whose real name is Joe Schreibvogel. Following the eccentric character as he becomes Joe Exotic.
