With sponsorship from An Post, Pride Vibes is returning with a stacked schedule for 2024 Pride.
2024 Pride is officially upon us, and this year is set to be a big one. As part of the 50-year anniversary of Pride celebrations in Ireland, this year’s theme is ‘SHINE’ to celebrate the festivities’ golden jubilee. A lot has changed since Dublin’s first Pride back in 1974, when a small group of activists marched from the Department of Justice on Stephen’s Green to the British Embassy on Merrion Road, advocating for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. It wasn’t until 1993 that homosexuality was decriminalised here, and gay marriage was only legalised in 2015.
Speaking on this year’s theme, Dublin Pride’s Executive Director Jamie Kenny has stated, “Shine means to give forth light, but it also means to cast light into dark places, or to restore the brilliance of things that have gotten dull. Pride celebrates the light we all hold, but it is at its brightest when shared. This Pride season, Dublin Pride will have plenty of opportunities to come together to celebrate, support, and learn from each other.”
As part of the festivities, Pride Vibes has returned to the radio. The station was launched in 2022 and has since won the Audio for Change Award at the recent Irish Audio Awards. This year, presenters include Sean Munsanje, Shivani Dave, Crossy, Stephen Byrne, and Vicki Blight.
In line with this year’s theme, Pride Vibes, in collaboration with An Post, promises a programme celebrating the community by platforming real people and allowing them to share their hopes, fears, and lived experiences. The station will also be sharing live Pride updates and starting conversations about modern-day issues that impact the community. An Post have also re-released their pride stamps, encouraging those in the community to share a memory, make a connection and Send Love this pride month.
Next Thursday from 11 to 1pm, Pride Vibes and An Post are hosting and producing a radio broadcast at Outhouse, an LGBTQ+ centre and safe place for people in the community to find connection, community support, culture, and campaigns. Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre has been proudly serving the LGBTQ+ community for over 27 years, striving for a future where LGBTQ+ individuals are safe, visible, and celebrated. Check out Outhouse this Thursday, and until the end of June.
