This Wexford Artist Just Went No. 1 In Japan

Words: Rachel Hannon

You often hear people say, “they’re big in Japan,” and this time, it’s legit.

Wexford man Jaxson aka Luke Jackson has landed a huge credit on a Japanese Billboard No. 1 album from J-Pop superstar Kento Nakajima. The Irish artist co-wrote the track ‘Gods Play’, which appears on Nakajima’s latest release IDOL1st. The Wexford artist has steadily built a reputation as a songwriter and performer, previously speaking candidly about the persistence required to navigate the music industry. Since its release three weeks ago, the song has racked up over 6 million views on the music video’s YouTube alone.

Taking to Instagram, Jaxson said: “Beyond grateful to have been a part of this song! A huge thank you to my friend and daily source of inspiration Kanata Okajimafor making this session possible for me.”

Speaking to the Wexford People, he also said, “This is such an exciting genre of music and it’s just incredible to be part of a song that truly captures the essence of J-Pop, rather than just trying to replicate it.”

Ireland has always had a strong history of songwriters, and it’s stories like these that give hope that this legacy will continue long into the distant future. Congrats on the No. 1 Jaxson!
