Video Premiere: SPOOKLET Pairs Mesmerising Visuals With New Music

Words: Rachel Hannon

If you don’t know her, get to. SPOOKLET is part of a new generation of Irish artists reshaping expectations around electronic music. She is part of Dublin’s alternative electronic and queer-led creative communities; spaces where performance art, club culture, visual identity, and experimental sound come together. And that’s exactly what can be seen in her new music video for ‘CARDINAL FURY’.

Featuring silverglass, the track offers symmetrical, hypnotic visuals of SPOOKLET expressing feelings of pressure, claustrophobia, and distortion. It’s haunting yet beautiful. Musically, it is built from glitch textures, asymmetrical percussion, sub-heavy low-end pressure, with SPOOKLET’s airy vocals contrasting on top. Her vocal approach draws natural comparisons to the experimental emotionality of Sega Bodega, Caroline Polachek, and FKA twigs.

This is part of her forthcoming EP HAVE YOU SEEN MY BODY?, which marks a shift conceptually and sonically for SPOOKLET.

“With this release, I wanted to shift SPOOKLET’s narrative and give her a new world to play with,” she explains. “She has stayed within the confines of her natural habitat thus far, and I wanted to see what would happen if placed in a more ruthless and unforgiving space.”

‘CARDINAL FURY’ drops tomorrow with the music officially being released then too. But we have the world exclusive premiere here on District Music.

The full HAVE YOU SEEN MY BODY? EP comes out on September 4.
