We’re Hosting A Spoken Word Event At The GPO Honouring 10 Years of Marriage Equality

Join us for this landmark event, presented in collaboration with An Post, featuring host Rory O’Neill AKA Panti Bliss and a special performance by SOAK. Secure your tickets here.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of a moment that changed Ireland forever, the Marriage Equality Referendum. To honour the legacy of that vote and all the change it welcomed, District has teamed up with An Post to host an unforgettable evening of spoken word, music, and celebration at the historic GPO, a building central to Irish revolution and progress.

This event is part of An Post’s Letter to My Future Self campaign, inviting the nation to reflect through letter-writing and celebrate what we’ve achieved. It’s about who we were ten years ago, who we are today, and who we hope to become. Set for the 22nd of May from 6.45 to 9.30pm, this intimate event promises an uplifting night of queer talent and celebration. Best of all, every cent from the €10 ticket sales will go directly to Belong To, to support LGBTQ+ youth across Ireland.

The night will be hosted by Rory O’Neill (aka Panti Bliss), the drag queen, performer, and activist who became a central figure in Ireland’s fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Known for their fearless advocacy and viral “Noble Call” speech at the Abbey Theatre in 2014, Rory has long been a symbol of visibility and pride within the queer community.

Guests will be welcomed with drinks from Craft Cocktails, courtesy of An Post. From there, the evening will unfold with powerful spoken word performances from voices deeply embedded within Ireland’s LGBTQ+ movement.

The Spoken Word segment will feature an exciting line-up, with confirmed appearances from Ranae Von Meding, founder of Equality for Children and a prominent voice for LGBTQ+ families; and poet Sarah Creighton Keogh, whose work on identity and activism has been featured in Poetry Ireland. Stay tuned as we announce additional performers in the coming days, completing a line-up that promises to be absolutely unmissable.

One of our favourite music acts, SOAK, the Mercury Prize-nominated artist known for their deeply personal lyrics and haunting melodies, will be closing the night. But beyond the performances, this is about pausing to reflect on the seismic shift that the Marriage Equality Referendum represented, not just legally, but emotionally, and socially for queer people across Ireland. It was the first time that many felt fully seen and heard by their own country. The campaign brought families, friends, and strangers together in solidarity and love. Crucially, it reminded us all that equality isn’t just a policy, it’s a principle rooted in compassion and justice.

As we gather under the roof of the GPO, we’ll honour those who made the vote possible and those still fighting for full inclusion today. More event details will be announced shortly. Get your tickets here.
