If you’re looking for an artist who knows how to make you feel something, look no further than Sjaney. Blending soul, indie, R&B, and lo-fi, she is also an exceptional DJ with such a instinct for atmosphere. The rising Meath musician not only crafts songs and sets that linger long after they end, she also explores sound through her website Janey’s Jukebox. We’ve teamed up with Beamish to spotlight rising Irish acts worth knowing, and Sjaney is one you won’t want to overlook.
Sjaney’s journey with music began early, age five to be exact, when she started piano lessons that would lay the foundation for a lifelong obsessions. A self-proclaimed music nerd, she quickly expanded her skills to include guitar, bass, and eventually production and DJing. Now 23 and based in Meath, she’s performed across London, Dublin, and Galway. Her deep emotional connection to music has always seemed to guide her, and you can really feel that sincerity in everything she creates.
Sjaney’s sound is impossible to pin down. She floats between indie, soul, R&B, lo-fi, and ambient. It’s the kind of sound that invites you to slow down the dreamy, moody soundscapes with the deliberate and meaningful lyrics she carefully chooses. Her sound always warms a room.
But Sjaney’s love of sharing music goes far beyond her own creations. Through Janey’s Jukebox, her online platform where she creates thoughtful playlists that reflect her eclectic taste and deep passion for exploring how music makes us feel, and for uncovering hidden gems across all genres.
easy alone – This stripped back ballad in 3/4 time, showcases her beautiful piano skills and her ethereal dulcet tones. It explores the space between solitude and loneliness. I think it’s definitely one of her most poignant works yet.
angel – Her latest track, this is a soulful intimate track that shows Sjaney at her most vulnerable. With soft airy vocals and a subtle instrumentation, it feels like a whispered confession.
Light Up The House – Juliet Franklin, Sjaney (SoundCloud Remix) – A SoundCloud gem where Sjaney and Juliet Franklin blend infectious grooves with their raw energy. This remix brings together their shared flair for mixing mood with movement. Perfect for both the club or your headphones. You will be moving either way.
For Sjaney, writing starts with emotion, whether that’s a lyric that bubbles up or a piano note that won’t let go. She layers her songs so carefully with her subtle production choices that shape the mood as well as the melodies. The same applies to her DJ work alongside Juliet Franklin and on her own. She spins genre-blending sets that lit up places like Girls Room events, festival stages, and online. Her chemistry on both the stage as a vocalist and as a DJ brings such an irresistible mix of fun, finesse, and feeling.
With new singles in the works, Sjaney is set to make an even deeper mark on Ireland’s music world. Expect more live dates like at We’ve Only Just Begun festival, more posts on Janey’s Jukebox, and more live DJ sets. As a fluent French speaker, maybe we will here some of the language in her future works. Who knows? But wherever she heads next, Sjaney is proving that when vulnerability and authenticity meets vision, something powerful takes shape. And it stays with you.
