Is October 2024’s Best Month For Irish Music?

Words: Dray

Our favourite Irish artists seem to have conspired to all drop their projects in October. So much variety, only strengthening the Irish underground’s pedigree and showing the world the quality that we can put out.

02 October

Bricknasty – Xongz

We’ve already given this record high praise and the guys in Bricknasty are one of the reasons as to why October is so damn strong this year. Over the endearing chords and lavish sax riffs, we get a truly introspective and layered work of art which reflects the evolution of one of Ireland’s greatest bands out right now.

04 October

Orla Gartland – Everybody Needs A Hero

A fitting next step to the Orla journey. A project centred around strong femininity, Orla uses her powerful voice to entwine her vocals with a dreamy sound. From the aggression on ‘Little Chaos’ to the tenderness of ‘The Hit’, we get a pleasing mix of cathartic guitars and gentle rhythms.

11 October

Ahmed, With Love. –

Pharmacist by day, rapper by night. We love a project with world-building and Ahmed’s new mixtape ‘Comma, full stop.’ sees the silly mix with the production of some of our favourites in Ireland. With bars coming effortlessly, Ahmed, With Love on his day has the silkiest flow in the country. Three singles have left us wanting for more.

17 October

shiv – the defiance of a sadgirl

There is truly no voice that shakes you to the core like shiv’s. Infectious energy from her music can either leave us feeling like a ray of sunshine has hit us or leave us bawling in our bedrooms. Her two singles have shown the spectrum of emotions she can convey, one second we’re contemplating life on ‘defiance’ and then bathing in the bounce of ‘cherry pie’.

18 October

Maverick Sabre – Lay Down On Me

Enter the monochrome world of Maverick Sabre and you’ll be welcomed by soul and catharsis. Elements of jazz and old school soul are brought into the 21st Century by the vocals of Maverick. Sabre’s music conveys a more pensive view of reality, slowing down the often hectic outside world.

25 October

Rejjie Snow

A pioneer of Irish hip hop and the alternative world in Ireland, Rejjie Snow makes a long-awaited return. Dropping singles which takes us back to the heydey of that 2017 sound. Rejjie’s smooth flow takes us on a journey, drawing on a variety of international instrumentals to tickle that nostalgia itch but give us something we’ve never seen from him.
