A Look At Ireland’s World Expo Space Welcoming Millions in Japan

Every five years, over 160 countries descend on a central hub to show the future of humankind and to welcome the world into their cultural sphere. 2025 marks Japan’s first time hosting the expo in over 50 years and here it’s here in Osaka where Ireland has created a place to dive headfirst into our culture.

This time round, Ireland has centred its expo around ‘Creativity Connects People’, which is all enclosed within a triple-tiered “pavilion”. The area resembles a Celtic triskele, showing live music, art exhibitions and cultural displays. The exterior of the pavilion is surrounded Irish Irish-grown Douglas Fir, alongside sculpture work from Irish artist Joseph Walsh and landscape design by Japanese landscape architect Hiroyuki Tsujii.

From 13 April to 13 October, the pavilion will be home to events such as live trad music, a late St. Patrick’s Festival, Halloween’s roots in Ireland and Ireland’s prominence in science and tech. Approximately 30 million people are estimated to visit the expo grounds.
