A Queer Sex Positive Fetish Club Is Coming To Dublin

Words: Dray Morgan

London-based sex-positive event series “Joyride” are Debuting in Dublin as their first venture into international territory.

Joyride is rooted in the queer and rave community to provide a safe space for attendees to explore their sexuality and embrace an “open-minded and debauched atmosphere”. After establishing themselves and growing in popularity over the past two years in London, Joyride has chosen Dublin as its first venue overseas.

The series spans two events in Dublin. On 21 November, The Racket Space will be host to a “Joyride Social”, this will include workshops, markets, performances, tattoos and discussions aimed at sexual liberation and relationships.

Joyride are also bringing together members of the Irish queer community to build the night alongside them. Co-founder of Honeypot, Rhyzine, will be providing music as well as sex educator and Irish founder of Joyride, MJ Fox, will be present for an open discussion. Previous workshops have centred around non-monogamy, desire, vulnerability, femme domination, and introductions to practices such as tantra and Shibari rope bondage.

Santa might have to bring you your latex a tad early because on 21 December, Joyride bring their renowned parties to the Grand Social. Caít b2b Síofra, Mercorn (Tender), and Dark Mavis will soundtrack an evening of eroticism. Labelled a “liberatory space embodying freedom, pleasure, empowerment, and experimentation” the Grand Social will be turned into a fetishist paradise with areas of the venue converted into “playrooms”.

“It feels both symbolic and significant to have my hometown of Dublin as our first international destination. We’ve witnessed huge shifts in Irish attitudes towards sex and sexuality over the past few years—most notably with marriage equality and the repeal of the 8th Amendment. There’s now an openness to diverse sexualities and explorations that would have felt foreign even half a decade ago, and it’s so exciting to see,” said founder MJ Fox.

The Joyride mission statement reads: “Consent is paramount. Do not touch people without their explicit consent. Be mindful not to assume anyone’s sex, sexuality or gender. No racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, body-shaming, ageism. If you feel uncomfortable or if you see something that looks problematic, please let the Joyride Welfare Team know.”
