Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent are using their workshops to make surgical masks instead of clothes

The fashion labels have also pledged financial help.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent are now using their workshops to create more protective masks. They released a statement with the full details, including plans to import the masks from China.

The Kering Group (their parent company) pledged its money towards buying  three million masks for the French health service.

It will also make a donation to The Institut Pasteur biomedical research institute.

“The French workshops of Kering’s Houses Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent are preparing to manufacture masks while complying with the strictest health protection measures for their staff members, with production getting under way as soon as the manufacturing process and materials have been approved by the relevant authorities”, said the Paris-based company.
