Introducing BTP Beag, Beyond The Pale’s new stripped-back music series. What is it? Three acts, one room, one track, and one take.

This year, they’re spotlighting artists currently shaping the Irish music landscape; Dublin’s hip-hop royalty Curtisy, Carlow-born bi-lingual Irish artist, multi-instrumentalist, and fashion designer SexyTadhg, and finally shoegaze-alternative rock quartet DREAM BOY.
We asked each of the artists about their experience of being an Irish artist in the industry today.
Curtisy: “We really have something for everyone now. It feels like there is no one Irish sound, we’re covering all bases with genres and styles. Irish artists are confidently creating what they want to and being recognised for it on a global scale and I think that’s breathing confidence into the younger generation and fuelling them to have a go and be themselves. The growth of the underground rap scene, for example, has been so fast and so fruitful, everyday there’s a new sub genre being invented over there.”
SexyTadhg: “I take great pride in being an Irish Artist. The level of musicianship, artistry and talent coming from Ireland is and always has been second to none. I feel so grateful to be part of such a vibrant and beautiful creative scene.”
DREAM BOY: “Performing it in an intimate settling feels like performing for us, not a crowd. It means I can just feel the emotion of the song. Purple is the angry side of wanting change. This industry is tough, and it’s made no easier being a woman. It’s that feeling of being ignored, sexualised, wanting to scream. Performing this and not worrying about how it’s being perceived by an audience means we just get to be loud and angry.”
In their own rights, they are three future facing acts pushing culture forward, which is why Beyond The Pale is also having them perform at the festival in June.
These sessions are shot in FUEL’s Camden Street studio, with each session stripping back to let the music and the artists lead the way. No gimmicks, just pure music.
