Clontarf Baths trial extended into September

Words: Ellen Kenny

Following a successful trial in August, the Clontarf Baths will remain open until at least early September.

Clontarf Baths will be open for at least another week and a half, according to Clontarf Outdoor Pool on Facebook.

The Baths will be open from 10:00 to 12:00 on September 2, 6, 7 and 9. They will be open from 14:00 to 16:00 every weekday in September until September 9, except for September 6 where a trial evening session will run from 18:00 to 20:00.

The ten euro entry fee for adults and children remain. The Baths have five swimming lanes using cleaned, filtered, and lightly chlorinated seawater.

The Baths before refurbishment

The Clontarf Baths originally opened in 1886. It was refurbished to the cost of 2.4 million euros in 2018. As a result, the Baths now boast several amenities, including hot showers and a restaurant. However, entry was previously limited to members of private club.

Operators confirmed at the time of refurbishment that public use could only be approved if Dublin City Council was willing to provide them with funding to facilitate a public opening.

Clontarf Outdoor Pool announced that the Baths would open to the public on a trial basis for August. At the time, they did not disclose whether the trial would run past August. This extension could now indicate that the Clontarf Baths will remain open to the public indefinitely.
