Words: Dylan Murphy
The Shed Residents have partnered with Jägermeister to cook up a heavy-hitting lineup that showcases local talent alongside international acts as part of a program supporting club culture across the island.
If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Rubinstein, you only have to look at the comments section of her numerous Boiler Rooms sets or her 2022 Hör Berlin set to get a feel for the in demand selector. Nothing compares to the real life experience and fortunately, Dublin collective, The Shed Residents have curated a night in partnership with Jägermeister that sees the Berlin-based DJ headline Here & Now on September 29, alongside a line-up of established talent including some of the most exciting acts in Ireland..
The Shed Residents have quickly made a name for themselves in the capital as a self-sufficient, DIY collective showcasing rising acts and hosting their own events along the way. Through their website and socials, they’ve premiered music from the likes of FAXE ON FAXE and Blimp and documented their nights through documentary-style photography. There’s even an option to submit mixes for their Seomra Sessions via their website. So it makes sense that they’ve teamed up with Jägermeister on an event that sees them curate a bill for a night to launch #SAVETHENIGHT: Irish Edition, a campaign to support club culture in Ireland.
Between her residency at NTS, slots at the world’s most iconic stages and solo productions, IMOGEN, has established herself as an act with undeniable pedigree. Having released Steel City Dance Discs among others, she joins the #SAVETHENIGHT line up on September 29. Elsewhere, hard groove enthusiast, Jon10, also heads to Here & Now on the night. A selector who looks to the future without totally abandoning the past, his sets traverse decades of sounds. Last but not least, is producer and DJ, CULT, who is quickly rising through the ranks with releases on Deadline Records and Concrete Berlin amongst others.
Anyone with a smart phone or that frequents clubs in Ireland will be conscious of the obstacles to club culture at large. In the past five years, clubs and bars like Tramline and The Bernard Shaw have joined a long list of venues that have closed their doors. At the same time, groups like Give Us The Night have been instrumental in campaigning for new licensing laws and pushing for reform in the night time economy. The forthcoming event in Here & Now is the first #SAVETHENIGHT event in Ireland. Jägermeister started the initiative in 2020 in response to the pandemic and to support struggling night time economies across the world. So far, they’ve supported more than 1,500 artists, creatives and bartenders across 60 countries since the initiative’s inception, and this event marks the first in a series of longer term #SAVETHENIGHT initiatives within Ireland.
