Dublin’s essential events this weekend 7//8//9

R3D’s first house party, an album launch in Hen’s Teeth and banging club nights.

Every Thursday at District we’ll be curating a selection of unmissable events in Dublin ahead of the coming weekend. Whether you have an appetite for thumping techno or are craving some hip hop classics we have you covered.

Top of your priorities this weekend should be heading out to vote, but once you’ve done that there is plenty to get involved in. Having said goodbye to January the city is littered with great club nights and fascinating events. There’s an exhibition examining existential art and an album launch in Hen’s Teeth.

Friday 7 February

The RnB Club & R3D’S House Party – Yamamori Tengu – 22.00 – 03.00

The first edition of R3D’s House Party is coming this Friday. The monthly event celebrates all things 90s & ’00s hip hop & RnB.

This Friday sees The Main Event, Papa Lou & DJ R3D holding it down from 22.00 – 03.00.

R3D will be throwing his own party within The RnB Club at the Whiskey Bar, up beyond the restaurant. So you’ll have a choice of more oldschool classic rnb in the main room, or newer stuff up with R3D and the lads.

Musically, think Biggie, Beyonce, Dilla, Outkast and LL Cool J.

Art of Algebra Album Launch & Live Performance – Hen’s Teeth – 19.00 – 22.00

Art of Algebra is the musical alias of David Hallinan, an Irish electronic producer who recently released his self-titled album. In his new project he draws from a number of influences to create a beat-driven atmospheric piece that borrows inspiration from the likes of John Hopkins.

The album launch is held in conjunction with Optic Music in Hen’s Teeth this Friday and vinyl copies pressed by Dublin Vinyl Company will be available for purchase on the night.

Stamp presents: 1-800 GIRLS & LPM – Wigwam – 23.00 – 03.00

Wigwam plays host to the nostalgic sounds of 1-800 GIRLS this Friday. The hugely talented London based producer first shot to prominence with his infamous track ‘U, Me and Madonna’, which has now amassed over 2.5 million views.

He’s released under labels like Clippart, Unit Two and Nerang and now he’s heading to the capital.

Dublin’s LPM will be on support duties on the night alongside Stamp DJs.

Research have cooked up an insane line-up in one of the city’s more intimate venues.

This Saturday they’ve got a heavy-weight tag team of Manni Dee and Stephanie Sykes on the ones and twos.

Support on the night comes from Kaycee who’ll be making her Research debut.

Telephones are back and they’ve got a tasty line-up for their first party of 2020.

Papa Lou, Calum Kennedy and Sulan & Naoise will be providing the tunes. Spinning a selection of disco, brazil, afro, boogie, hip hop and world music.

The Underground Venue kicks off the new year with a hip hop showcase event featuring Jah 1, FMC and more. There’s an open cypher from 20.00 – 21.00 so there’s incentive to get down early.

Curator’s lecture by Seán Kissane: Derek Jarman, Protest! – Irish Museum of Modern Art – 14.00-15.00

IMMA curator Seán Kissane is presenting a lecture titled ‘Irresistible Grace: Tracing Alchemy, Existentialism and Literature across three decades of painting’.

This expanded talk examines the lesser known parts of Derek Jarman’s practice. Kissane’s lecture will look closely at Jarman’s early paintings and design work, revealing how a continuity of thought can be found throughout the artist’s diverse use of media. These ideas will be placed within the overall themes of the Derek Jarman exhibition PROTEST!.

It’s recommended you attend the exhibition ‘Derek Jarman, PROTEST!’ before it closes 23 February. Admission is free too
