The Emerging Director Awards (EDAs) are back again for their 10th edition, celebrating a decade of spotlighting Ireland’s most promising filmmaking talent. Organised by the Institute of Creative Advertising and Design (ICAD) and Commercial Producers Ireland (CPI), the EDAs have become a vital platform for up-and-coming directors, cinematographers, editors, and producers.

If you are just starting out as a filmmaker, you need to know about this. The EDAs are Ireland’s only awards dedicated exclusively to emerging filmmakers, with no more than five years of professional experience. By focussing just on new talent, the EDAs provide a vital platform for rising talent to showcase their work at a fundamental point in their careers. What’s more, winners of the EDAs will get automatic entry into the prestigious Young Directors Awards at Cannes.

Past winners have gone on to achieve international acclaim. For example, Benjamin Cleary’s
short film Stutterer won an Academy Award, and other filmmakers such as Finn Keenan, Kate Dolan, and Zak Razvi have gained a foothold in the industry.

“To mark its 10th anniversary, we’re proud to expand the programme with valuable knowledge-sharing
and educational elements, further nurturing the growth of emerging filmmakers and contributing to the continued success of the industry,” said Ross Killeen, of Motherland and the EDA Committee. “The EDA’s are all about celebrating the talent we have in this country and giving them every opportunity to forge a successful career in the industry”

The 2025 EDAs will be a full-day event on May 8 at the Light House Cinema, featuring panel discussions, screenings, and the awards ceremony. For more details and to submit your work, visit www.edaireland.ie and submit before March 25th, 2025.
