First Listen: Ward shares infectious anthem ‘In Two Minds’

Words: Dylan Murphy

17-year-old Waterford instrumentalist Ward serves a slice of sun-kissed goodness.

Fresh on the Irish music scene, teenage multi-instrumentalist Ward is grabbing attention with his freewheeling self-produced anthems. Channelling a catchy pop sensibility without compromising the songwriting that gives his music an edge, the 17 year old Waterford native has shared a certified summer anthem.

We’re delighted to premiere ‘In Two Minds’, the third single from Ward.

The sun-kissed anthem is getting slotted straight into our barbecue playlists and in the meantime while we wait for things to heat up the bedroom-produced cut is bringing a lovely slice of optimistic pop to our doors.

Sitting somewhere between the infectious hooks of Dominic Fike and the relatable quips of Yeek, ‘In Two Minds’ is a strong statement of intent from a young artist with a lot more to give.

Speaking on the process that led to ‘In Two Minds’ Ward said, “I like to make all my tracks quickly. I’ll write the tune in a day and then when it comes to recording I’ll sit down in the morning and get started and then everything sort of starts snowballing as it all comes together and by the time I go to bed I have the finished project”.

Keeping inspired during lockdown, the DIY upstart explained the inspiration that artists broadcasting online have brought him.

“I’m really inspired by other artists and producers who are doing it themselves from home these days. Watching artists such as Kenny Beats on twitch making music live and showing his creative process for the benefit of other artists and producers inspires me to go make my own music”.
