Dublin’s Vice Coffee is no relation to the media conglomerate or the pizza spot. Marked by a standout approach to drinks, Vice is a well-known speciality coffee shop that has been featured in the likes of Condé Nast Traveller. It is also well known among Irish coffee aficionados for its signature hot Irish coffee topped with orange-blossom cream.

Irish Coffee became a huge success and an airport speciality. It was introduced to the rest of the world in 1952 by travel writer Stanton Delaplane. He brought it to Jack Koeppler, a bartender in San Francisco, and “persuaded” him to recreate it.

That spot in San Francisco was called the Buena Vista, and it went on to become renowned for Irish Coffees. The busiest day they ever had was Super Bowl Sunday, 1982. That day, three bartenders served 109 bottles of whiskey between 08:00 and 17:30 The night shift served another hundred, meaning the pub served well over six thousand drinks that day. From there, it slowly conquered the world by word of mouth.

These days we Irish our coffee after meals or during cold seasonal events and to celebrate the season.

Grab your free Irish Coffee from Vice Coffee in WigWam this Thursday from 18:00.
