IMMA announce Earth Rising, a free festival of creativity centred around a sustainable future

The Irish Museum of Modern Art is creating space to imagine brighter futures. From Thursday 21 – Sunday 24 September, Royal Hospital Kilmainham will become a hub for creative thinking as festival goers are given the opportunity to imagine alternative futures at Earth Rising. The four-day festival of free events aimed at tackling the climate crisis focuses on inspiring collective action in the face of the greatest modern challenge to humanity. What’s more, it’s free.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That’s why Earth Rising is hosting a series of exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and talks from thought leaders across creative and scientific industries in order to act as a catalyst for imaginative alternatives to our current system. The full lineup for the festival will be revealed later this month. However, Earth Rising Presents:, is an early highlight on the lineup revealed so far. It’s showcasing work from over 50 artists after IMMA provided funding during an open call for work. Elsewhere, there are plenty of workshops throughout the festival for punters looking to get in the thick of new experiences, ranging from nest-making to cheesemaking. Whereas, for people looking for more passive entertainment, there are outdoor screenings of multi-disciplinary art and a live cinema indoor performance from Colm Higgins.

The Earth Rising Talks stage sees the likes of Irish inventor Fionn Ferreira, and author and activist Dr. Vandana Shiva host conversations.

Over the four days, Gerry Godley and Jennie Moran are curating the Earth Rising Field Kitchen. The food-themed site encourages conversations about the future of cuisine and mass consumption of food. Meanwhile, for any younger attendees, the Earth Rising Future Generation Tent fosters positive conversations for the future of the planet and has been specially curated with children in mind. Here, there’s the opportunity to attend workshops and engage with climate action potentially for the first time.

Earth Rising is free for attendees. However, booking may be essential for specific workshops. To get ahead of the curve head to www.imma.ie to book your slot now.
