Ireland’s Biggest Art Book Fair Is Returning to Dublin

Text: Dray Morgan

Over 500 of the most unique, newly published works will be on display from 07-17 December in Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, as part of the Dublin Art Book Fair 2023.

Publications on art, design, visual culture, philosophy, architecture, select fiction and poetry will feature over the ten-day celebration of literary and artistic achievement. As well as displaying works, interactive talks, tours, workshops, and screenings will take place throughout the fair, for you to read between the lines and engage with the minds behind the works.

See something that catches your eye? The fair is set to be one of the only places where you can purchase unique handmade books and zines from artists of many disciplines and backgrounds.

Under the curatorship of award-winning author Wendy Erskine, this year’s theme is “Polyphonic,” which by definition means bringing many voices together. The program includes an array of talks and presentations, bringing together minds from all over the globe. Attend what interests you with a plethora of disciplines on display. Look through the history of Punk culture and how that intertwines with DIY publishing. Hear from those who have feet-on-the-ground experience documenting and distributing alternative media. On the day, there will also be the chance for you to win a piece of art in the raffle, as artists such as Gerard Byrne, Aleana Egan, Alice Maher, Isabel Nolan, Mairead O’hEocha, and Niamh O’Malley have all donated pieces.

For a more hands-on approach to the festival, get involved in multiple immersive workshops such as how to make zines, how to experiment with different artistic styles. Attend a workshop on how to begin a journey of art activism or take part in the Artists’ Fundraiser for Médicins Sans Frontières in aid of Palestine.

The fair has also teamed up with the Irish Film Institute and aemi for a special screening of maɬni – towards the ocean, towards the shore, a poetic experimental documentary by filmmaker Sky Hopinka. The film gives a look at indigenous Americans reflecting on their environment as they hike through the picturesque surroundings of the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

Dublin Art Book Festival commences on 07 December, click here to grab tickets and find out more about what’s on offer.
