Our takeaway comfort food of choice is Pizza this week. The announcement comes on the same day as National Pizza day.
Data shows that the next most popular types of food ordered were Chinese, chipper, and, surprisingly, sushi. This time around, the data analysis was carried out by the ‘culinary experts’ at HelloFresh Ireland.
Ireland disproportionately loves a takeaway. According to stats from 2016, Irish people spend a whopping €19m on takeaways every week. According to the DKM Economic Impact Report, this amounts to almost €1.5bn on fast food every year.
In 2016 Irish takeaway services account for 57per cent of the restaurant sector, with 2,995 takeaways in Ireland. CHAR was unable to find more recent statistics but can only imagine these went up during the pandemic and remain high as the cost of going out increases.
Ireland’s favourite takeaway seems to be a quarterly battle with JustEat, Flipdish, and Deliveroo all offering up their own stats at different points during the year.
