January Gig Guide: Two RTÉ Concert Orchestra Shows Worth Leaving The House For

We all know January lasts 127,364 years.

Some of us get the January blues, some of us are out getting fit, and some of us continue the Christmas energy until next year. Whatever your style, January doesn’t have to be quiet. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra shows next month cover both ends of the spectrum. On January 4, there is a full-scale rock celebration of an Irish icon taking over the 3Arena, and on January 24, there is full on cinematic escapism in the NCH.

The Dedication to Philip Parris Lynott: 40th Anniversary

    January 4, 3Arena

This is a monumental tribute to the legendary Phil Lynott in the 3Arena, where rock royalty merges with orchestral power. The night features Grand Slam, an all-star cast including Ricky Warwick, Marco Mendoza and Richard Fortus, plus a stunning performance of Thin Lizzy classics by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra with guest vocalists. Renegade, led by Darren Wharton and joined by original Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell. This will be high, electric energy, a finale that will be worth the wait.

RTÉ CO Presents: Classical Landscapes – Falla & Dvořák

    January 24, National Concert Hall

The RTÉ Concert Orchestra welcome back French conductor Swann Van Rechem for a night celebrating classical music across the eras, from Romanticism to early Modernism. Expect dreamy ambiance with works like Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, a splash of colour with Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, rich storytelling with Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia, before finally closing with the pure joy of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8. This is the perfect winter escape through sound.

Tickets are on sale here now. Don’t sleep on this.
