Kelela shares cerebral club cut ‘Contact’ ahead of new album

Words: Dylan Murphy

Ahead of her forthcoming album RAVEN, shapeshifting artist Kelela has dropped a 2-step fuelled single.

After a hiatus of sorts, RnB trailblazer Kelela returned in a rich vein of form. In 2022, she shared ‘Washed Away‘, ‘Happy Ending‘ and ‘On The Run‘ to prime listeners for the forthcoming RAVEN. Ahead of its Februrary 10 arrival via WARP Records, she’s now dropped ‘Contact’, an intentionally disorienting and seductive club cut to get lost to.

Marrying 2-step and wavy bass with her trademark vocals, it’s a track designed to be played loud.

Speaking on the track, Kelela says, “‘Contact’ has a little bit of something for every part of the night. It’s a soundtrack for ‘pre-gaming’. It’s also the interior club experience: the heat that envelops you when you walk into a packed rave. All this culminates in a very naughty, psychedelic moment in the back of the club with a lover.”

February’s RAVEN is 15 new songs that encourage listeners to dig deeper in search of understanding. Executively produced by Kelela, co-produced by Asmara and featuring production from LSDXOXO, Yo Van Lenz, Florian T M Zeisig and Bambii, it promises to be her most eclectic record to date. With further experience under her belt and her songwriting game stronger than it’s ever been, Kelela is ready to push the boundaries of her sound.
