Over the past few days, there has been an attempt to halt the upcoming Bob Vylan show in Vicar Street by local councillors and TDs. The gig happens on 26 November, with legal proceedings commencing to remove the dance and music licence of the harbouring venue.
This began two days ago when Clondalkin Councillor, Linda de Courcy, raised concerns to Dublin District Court about the gig. Cllr de Courcy stated she was speaking on behalf of Independent TD Ken O’Flynn, who could not attend the meeting as he was out of the country.
O’Flynn had already written to Vicar Street, but he had received no response.
“I found it very upsetting when I saw the video of ‘rest in urine’, which was a much worse word than urine.“That upset me very much, and that’s why I put pen to paper,” he said.
Only two days later, the Cork North-Central TD distances himself from the claims of Linda De Courcy, stating it was “Certainly, it’s not our intention to close down anybody,” and that “everybody should have the right to free speech.”
Leader of the Independent party, Michael Collins, has stated he does not approve of Cllr de Courcy objecting to the removal of Vicar Street’s license. However, he did acknowledge he had no issue with her objecting to the gig in question.
The matter has been adjourned until 17 November, when a formal written objection must
be submitted to Dublin District Court by Linda de Courcy.
