MCD remain ‘optimistic’ that Electric Picnic will still go ahead

In an interview with the Daily Mirror this week, MCD’s Denis Desmond spoke positively about the festival’s chances of going ahead.

In a time where it seems like all festivals are off for the foreseeable future, we may have some good news.

MCD the promotion company behind the Electric Picnic have chimed in with their two cents ahead of the festival in September. Managing director of MCD Denis Desmond spoke to the Daily Mirror this week and said, “It is five months away.”

“I would be optimistic that Electric Picnic will happen but of course we are in un-chartered waters here.”

Continuing he said, “I’ve no doubt that there will be a relaxation of the restrictions in place but it will probably be some time before we can have 20,000 people in a stadium or in a field.”

Comparing Ireland’s situation to that of China he said, “We are two months behind them and we are not as badly hit with Covid-19. If we are back to normality by July, we would be doing well.”

All of the tickets for the festival have already sold out, with punters hoping to see the likes of Bicep, Run The Jewels, Skepta, Snow Patrol and more.

Fingers crossed that things will be closer to normal and the festival can go ahead safely in September.
