McDonald’s are launching a new plant-based burger and it sounds gross

Words: Dylan Murphy

The fast food outlet have revealed the hugely imaginative ‘McPlant’ protein.

McDonald’s has announced a new meat-free menu is to land in key markets next year.

Following trials in Canada last year, the golden arches fast food outlet has decided to introduce the new menu further afield. It will be the first line of plant-based alternatives and comes in response to growing consumer demand for non-meat options.

“Plant-based products are an ongoing consumer trend. It’s not a matter of if McDonald’s will get into plant-based, it’s a matter of when,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said.

The menu will include a patty co-created by Beyond Meat and inevitably, Twitter was quick to react to the news, with users clowning the announcement.

The move follows other fast food outlets like Burger King who have introduced plant-based alternatives.
