Mo Cultivation is a cultural platform, spearheaded by Bekah Molony, have been uplifting artists in the Irish creative scene for some time now. But why are these platforms so important and how do we work together to ensure the Irish creative world continues to flourish?
As part of our series with Jack Daniel’s spotlighting the faces pushing forward the Irish creative scene, we sat down with founder Bekah Molony to talk about why platforms like Mo Cultivation are so crucial.
From ‘Deadly Things Happening In Dublin’ to panel talks to radio shows, Mo Cultivation have crafted an ecosystem of innovation. Through grassroots mentorship, Bekah Molony’s brainchild has been able to act as a middleman between budding artists and the daunting world of the creative industry.
“The main goal is to entertain people, to give opportunities to a diverse range of creatives, and to really put underground and urban culture to the forefront in Ireland,” Bekah told District.
Bekah took her previous experience in the events and music industry to start Mo Cultivation. Through this, they’ve crafted a dedicated community who are passionate about nightlife, cultural exchange and deepening their knowledge of how the industry they love works.
“I felt like I could use that voice and kind of use that privilege to start a few new things, kind of pitch more people for more opportunities, and be that voice in between, like, the scene and these brands and festivals and organisers and media and stuff, and kind of build that rapport with creatives.”
Most budding artists have the same questions. How do I work with brands? How do I get my music out there? How do I find like-minded creatives to collaborate with? This is why Bekah made the decision to enact Ireland’s first-ever ‘cultural conference’. Titled ‘Making Moves’, Mo Cultivation’s cultural conference.
“Making Moves originally was an initiative I launched in 2023 where I was just going To select a cohort of creatives that I wanted to celebrate and kind of spotlight and work with them over the year to give them opportunities, But then I almost felt like I needed it to be bigger and better and to involve more people.”
Making Moves gave a space for panel talks, project screenings, open discussion sessions and one on one mentoring. Single-handedly, Bekah has been able to show that it is possible to break down the corporate barriers to the creative industry. Without platforms like this, who knows where Ireland would be?
