One half of legendary hip hop duo Mobb Deep, Prodigy, has passed away at just 42 years of age.
The trailblazing New York rapper and his Mobb Deep partner Havoc were the definition of the New York sound of the 1990s, with their album ‘The Infamous’ still a go-to record for hip hop heads.
Prodigy recently shared tracks like ‘Beast With It’ for the revival of the Marvel Black Panther series, as well as an EP in April of last year.
He performed in Las Vegas on Saturday on the ‘Art of Rap tour alongside a collection of other legends in the game like Ghostface Killah, Onyx, KRS-One and more.
According to XXL, Mobb Deep’s publicist released the following statement to them:
“Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”
