Monjola is celebrating the morals he was raised on in ‘Mama Always Says’

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Chamomile Records artist is topping off a huge month with the long-awaited single.

Monjola is hellbent on ending 2022 on a high note. The rapper and singer is fresh off the back of a support slot for NiNE8 Collective’s Biig Piig in Dublin and London and a series of shows as part of Kid Cudi’s European tour. While he’s been busy in the field, he’s showing it’s not been at the expense of his pen game. Today, he shares his latest single ‘Mama Always Says’ having teased the single during shows for a number of months.

Produced by Joe Brown, the in-house producer /engineer at XL Recordings, ‘Mama Always Says’ features skippy drums and propels his sound into uncharted territory without abandoning his trademark positive outlook on life.

Speaking on the cut, Monjola says, “This song was made so quickly, it came so naturally. Joe played me the beat by accident and I went to the booth and freestyled the whole track. It was inspired by my Mum and the morals that she raised myself and my siblings on.”

The track lands as Monjola plays Other Voices in Dingle this weekend.
