New Albums: ScHoolboy Q, Alex Gough, Chalk & more

Words: Dylan Murphy

With the endless onslaught of new music every Friday it’s hard to keep up with all the new releases. We’ve curated the essential new albums and projects out today for you to check out.

Mannequin Pussy – I Got Heaven

Philly rock group Mannequin Pussy have delivered thirty minutes of pure catharsis. I Got Heaven wastes no time getting into the thick of their no holds barred record. The title track is as good an album opener we’ve heard all year.

Schoolboy Q – Blue Lips

It’s been a hot minute since Groovy Q came through with a full length release. Since he appeared at a Boiler Room last year and teased new music, fans have been waiting with baited breath for new music and now, it’s finally here. Q recruits frequent collaborators like Ab-Soul for BLUE LIPS but there’s also new faces like Jozzy and Rico Nasty in there across the 18 tracks.

Chalk – Conditions

Belfast punk/techno outfit Chalk shared the brilliant ‘Bliss’ with fellow nordie Fears earlier this week and now they’ve released their second EP after picking up a couple of awards at the NI Music Awards last year. Future is looking bright for this three piece. Tap in before they take off.

Fynch – Youngfella

If you’re looking niche football references in rap music, you’ve came to the right place. Fynch has shared his debut album Youngfella which features long time collaborator Local Boy and 11 tracks of laid back rap goodness.

Ruff Sqwad – Flee FM

Grime innovators Ruff Sqwad are back with Flee FM.

IAMDDB – LOVE is WAR, Vol. 6

Manchester-raised singer and rapper IAMDBB returns with LOVE is WAR, Vol.6 which features Masego, Len and more.

Alex Gough – To Some Degree

London-based, Waterford-born producer, rapper and singer Alex Gough comes through with a new EP that introduces a new sound and approach that comes as a welcome left turn from his earliest work.

Master Peace – How To Make A Master Peace

Self-proclaimed indie sleaze revivalist Master Peace shares his debut album ahead of a Workman’s headliner on March 12.

Elsewhere on District: We Need To Talk About Ireland’s ‘Fake Weed’ Problem.
