Pa Salieu, Greentea Peng and Girl in Red among BBC Sound of 2021 longlist

Words: Dylan Murphy

The longlist compiled by industry experts highlights the most exciting rising talent in music.

The longlist for BBC Sound of 2021 has been revealed. In its nineteenth year, the nominees are selected by a panel of 161 experts with the winner announced in the new year. Among the panel were previous nominees Stormzy and Billie Eilish.

Last year saw Celeste pick up first prize, with previous winners including Adele, Michael Kiwanuka and Sigrid.

The criteria to be eligible for the award entails that acts must not have been the lead artist on a UK top 10 album or more than one top 10 single. If an act has been on a TV talent show in the past three years they are also ineligible.

One act a day from January 3 – 7 will be revealed to make up the top 5 acts.

This year’s longlist includes:

  • Alfie Templeman
  • Berwyn
  • Bree Runway
  • Dutchavelli
  • Girl In Red
  • Greentea Peng
  • Griff
  • Holly Humberstone
  • Pa Salieu
  • The Lathums

Last year’s top 5 acts were Celeste, Easy life, Yungblud, Joy Crookes and Inhaler.
