Perch Coffee returns with second commuter café in historical building

Words: Ellen Kenny

Perch Coffee have reimagined and restored a 19th century building to provide more commuters with specialty coffee.

Specialty coffee shop Perch Coffee have announced the opening of their second location in yet another iconic building. Perch Coffee have opened their new café at the Glenageary DART station shop, a building dating back to 1867.

Co-owners Ray Finn and Hannah Murphy have breathed new life into the historical location, reopening a blocked-up window, reinstating a sash window and completely transforming the inside. The new café resembles a retro coffee shop perfect for people on their daily commute.

Hannah explains, “my ambition was to restore it and bring it back to its former glory. My goal is to give it a new lease of life by providing the local area and commuters with a friendly, independently run and convenient coffee shop serving excellent produce with a smile.”

This is the second revamp Perch Coffee have completed. In 2019, they restored the Leeson Street Kiosk to a 1920s art deco-themed café. The Kiosk was built in 1929 as a water pressure station, before it became a tearoom and eventually a café. The original Kiosk café shut down in 2017 before being reopened as Perch Coffee.

Perch Coffee’s mission is to provide great coffee with excellent and friendly customer service. The independently owned café has made a conscious decision to use local suppliers and is also committed to using recyclable materials.

Their specialty coffee comes from Bailies Coffee Roasters in Belfast, while their food is locally sourced from Greenville Deli. Roasts available in their new café include Costa Rican honey and floral Ethiopian.

Perch’s Gleangary café is open from 07:00 to 16:00 from Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 15:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
