Plantain Papi is Surrendering to his Emotions on ‘1942’

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Nigerian-born, Ireland-raised singer and producer has shared the lead single from his forthcoming debut project.

It’s impossible to pin Plantain Papi down into any one genre or sound. Routinely bending melodies and switching up his flow at will, he’s an artist adept at catering his delivery to best showcase the emotions at the centre of his output.

Having been a mainstay of the scene in Ireland for a number of years, he’s releasing his debut project STILL HEALING on February 16. Ahead of that he’s shared ‘1942′, an RnB-adjacent cut that leans into diary-esque musings on love and heartbreak. The kind that’s both littered with potential IG captions for Drake fans and comforting words for listeners going through the same healing journey who need an arm round the shoulder.

It comes after Plantain Papi was announced as an RTE 2FM Rising artist in 2022 and earned a support slot for Burna Boy at the 3Arena.

Stream ‘1942′ below and stay locked for the full project dropping later this month.
