Record amount of Irish nominations at this year’s Oscars

Ireland can claim (technically) fourteen nominations for the 95th Academy Awards.
Ireland has enjoyed its most successful year for Oscars nominations with Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, “An Irish Goodbye” and “An Cailín Ciúin” all nominated.
This marks the first Oscars nod for all the Irish actors nominated.
Farrell was nominated alongside Mescal in the Best Leading Actor category for their performances in “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Aftersun”.
Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan joined his co-star Brendan Gleeson in the Supporting Actors category for his role in “Banshees”.
Kerry Condon, who arguably was at the heart of “Banshees”, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
“Banshees of Inisherin” director McDonagh is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
With additional nods for music and film editing, “Banshees” can now claim the record for the most nominations for an Irish film.
Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” and “In the Name of the Father” previously held the record, with seven nominations each.
This year’s Oscar nominations have been dominated by Irish creatives and actors.
“An Cailín Ciúin” has made Irish cinema history by becoming the first Irish language film to be nominated for an Oscar in the International Feature Film category.
Northern Irish short film “An Irish Goodbye” also received a nomination in the Live Action Short Film category.
The star-studded ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 12, where hopefully Ireland will scoop up plenty of awards.
