Tonight Northampton rapper slowthai was awarded ‘Hero of the Year’, at the NME Awards. He then had a number of interactions that led him to leaving the event.
During his acceptance speech he said to a member of the crowd “Thank you for ruining my speech, thank you very much. Wasteman”, and then tossed the mic into the crowd.
After he walked away the microphone was thrown back along with a drink, prompting slowthai to launch his drink back. Thai then jumped off the stage towards the crowd member, but security promptly intervened.
Prior to this slowthai told the co-presenter Katherine Ryan “to smell my cologne” and then said, “baby girl I don’t want to do this to you right now, but everybody she needs to understand the levels”.
He later said to her, “If you want to do something, see me later”, followed by exclaiming “oi she wants me to tend to her flowers”.
According to reports online, the crowd member had challenged slowthai for being misogynistic in his interaction with Katherine Ryan.
