Sprezzatura Open Flâneur in Dublin

Flâneur is set to launch on Friday, March 10, and sits next door to Sprezzatura at 233 Rathmines Road Lower.

The new bistro will have an impressive array of champagne and wine. Wines on tap will be via WineLab.

On the menu at Flâneur are Parisian mainstays with locally sourced ingredients. Highlights include garlic escargot with Carlow snails (Es-Carlow, if you will), Toulouse-style sausages from Jane Russell, and moules frites with Killary Fjord mussels.

As with Sprezzatura, before it, value is the key. Dishes are priced between nine and fifteen euros with a notable exception for steak and duck. A COLC-busting midweek prix fixe will also offer a main course, dessert and glass of wine for a very reasonable €22.95.

Often associated with James Joyce’s Ulysses, the Oxford English Dictionary defines the word flâneur as “a lounger or saunterer, an idle ‘man about town’”. The flâneur was an observer, a decipherer, who spent their time strolling in the city. They were someone who was at home in crowds. As Baudelaire wrote of the flâneur: “the crowd is his domain, just as the air is the bird’s, and water that of the fish. His passion and profession is to merge with the crowd”. The Dublin Creative of its time.

Thom Lawson, the brains behind Sprezzatura, rarely puts a foot wrong, so Flâneur is one to watch out for. Reservations are live if you want to get all booked asap.

Sprezzatura also debuted a new menu last week.
