The account sharing the most ridiculous lyrics from your favourite artists

Words: Dylan Murphy

Lyric Cards that look like shitposts dominated our Twitter feeds this weekend and we’ve picked our favourite one liners they’ve unearthed.

Genius has become a staple for eager music fans in recent years. Their lyric breakdowns on youtube from the artists behind the music has brought clarity to some of the most popular songs of the last decade. Meanwhile, their annotated lyric pages also provide line-by-line analysis for your favourite songs. It’s made understanding meatier verses and complex lyricism a little bit easier.

As with anything in the internet age, it’s also become a furnace for meme content with clips of the artist breakdowns spreading like wildfire on Twitter when the songwriting is less than impressive.

“I thought Squidward played the cello, he don’t, that’s a flute.” – Lil Boat 2017

However, over the weekend our timelines were dominated by an account sharing lyrics from songs out of context. ‘Lyric cards that look like shitposts’ uses the lyric card function that places words from songs onto a shareable image. The kind of thing you would’ve seen on Tumblr back in the day, but instead, it’s more likely to feature 21 Savage than Owl City.

Anyways, the account is the perfect ailment to the Monday blues. We curated our favourites below:

Wise words from the mental health gurus turned boyband.

2020 mood if I ever seen one.

‘Happy Holidays’ from Blink-182.

21 Savage shows he has an unmatched mastery of the english language.
