The Far Right Hate To See Irish Artists Winning

Recently, we’ve been noticing a trend on social media of Irish artist who aren’t white having their identity invalidated and being harassed with racist rhetoric. In an era when Irish music has never had more momentum, this popularity is being fuelled by the talent of Irish artists of colour.

This backlsh was exemplified by the far right agitator, and overall gobshite, Michael O’Keefe. O’Keefe dedicates his time to posting inflammatory content surrounding ethnic minorities in Ireland, usually under the banner of “Ireland is finished”.

Most recently, he included two prominent Irish rappers, Youngiz and Travy in one of his compilation videos. With both making waves on an international scale and Travy being the first Irish artist to achieve a number one rap album in Ireland, and then achieve another, Ireland isn’t finished. It’s just getting started.

And this scourge isn’t just restricted to the depths of Elon Musk’s X, we’re increasingly seeing more racism on Irish artists’ tiktok comments. Artists such as KhakiKid, F3miii and Moio are killing it on the app, however with more eyes on them, we are seeing the racists crawling out to spew hate.

“I didn’t realise there was this much racism in Ireland initially,” said Irish artist Youngiz. The rapper has over 8500 followers on the app and 750,000 likes on his account. “People show their true colours online. it’s a slap in the face, especially when you’re trying to do something for the country you were born in.”
