The Rubberbandits tackle suicide rates among Irish males in new video

“Sonny, oh Sonny, don’t go hanging yourself”

As Mango Dassle said in his spoken word piece ‘Bread & Butter‘, “The only person making sense on my telly’s head wrapped in a Spar bag”.

Over the past couple of years this has often rang true, as The Rubberbandits, and Blindboy Boatclub in particular, have taken on some of Ireland’s most pressing social issues. They pay particular attention to skewed masculinity, suicide and depression on the island.

In their latest track the pair appeal to the fictional every-man ‘Sonny’ to “put down the rope”.

The new video features appearances by Rusangano Family, artist Shirani Bolle and more. Check it out below.
