This Is What Happens When Irish Traditional Music Is Fused With Jazz & Classical

This April 23, you can witness first-hand what happens when Irish traditional music is fused with jazz and classical. Aoife Ní Bhriain and Cormac McCarthy are two of the country’s most established and versatile musicians, and will be joining the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in The Helix for a night of genre defying sound.

Dubliner Aoife seamlessly bridges the gap between classical, contemporary, jazz, and traditional worlds through her violin and fiddle playing. Cork pianist Cormac is renowned for his compositions and arrangements across the same genres, and is also a lecturer at MTU Cork School of music and leads the Cork School of Music Jazz Big Band.

Together, they created an acclaimed debut album called Cosán Casta, weaving their individual sounds into one cohesive project. With the RTÉ Concert Orchestra as the sonic anchor for the evening, this performance will blur genre boundaries through a bold contemporary lens.
