This Museum is Celebrating Irish Hip Hop in June
As part of Bloomsday celebrations this 16 June, the Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) is throwing another highly anticipated garden party to celebrate the life and work of James Joyce as well as shining a light on contemporary wordsmiths.
In honour of the day, MoLI has collaborated with some of the Irish pioneers in their sound. Attendees will receive a welcome drink on arrival to start the afternoon out right thanks to Dublin Liberties Distillery. Transforming the historic museum’s exhibitions and gardens, the event takes place from 19:00 to 22:00. Tickets are half-price for MoLI Members, and party-goers can save an extra 25% with the discount code DISTRICT.
The event will be held across the museum on Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green, with a diverse lineup and a core of Irish drill running through it. Celine flows from more laid-back RnB to taking the 808s by the reigns and dropping bars. Tracks like ‘HER TRAPPER BOYFRIEND’ see a perfect harmonisation with lyricist Youngiz, whereas ‘ICK’ has us bopping our heads to a jersey beat and stern cadence.
Offica has well-established his sound right now. The golden boy of Irish drill and one of the most successful Irish rappers in recent memory. Gaining momentum through millions of views on GRM Daily, Offica became a household name with his A92 freestyle, which now sits at over 50 million views. Now standing on his catalogue after dropping his debut album ‘Hokage Pt.1’, it’s almost scary how head and shoulders above the rest he is.
Also joining the lineup is renowned selector DJ Emmy Shigeta, who fuses 70s and 80s Japanese pop with ambient electronica in her sets. Vinyl is a core part of her sets, and Shigeta has been known to play over 100 records a set, at her weekly six hour slot in Fidelity.
