Tommy Robinson travels using an Irish passport and The Irish Government could be moving to change that.
The government is looking into whether they can cancel the Irish passport of Tommy Robinson; a far-right and Islamophobic founder of the English Defence League. Robinson acquired his passport through his Irish heritage on his mother’s side and uses it as his main travel document.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, has long been involved in Irish far-right circles and maintains ties with key anti-immigration figures. During the Coolock violence, Robinson contacted a channel ran by a Dublin man who had openly discussed ramming gardaí with stolen cars. Robinson praised the unrest, stating “It’s great to watch lads. Keep it going and stay safe. Your police are total c**ts,” and then asked for videos of the violence to be sent to him.
After being detained in Canada in June, Robinson told local immigration authorities that he was born in Ireland. Throughout the immigration-related unrest in Ireland, Robinson has been a key figure in stoking flames of hate and tightening relations with Irish racist groups. Last year, he visited Ireland under the pretence of being a journalist, documenting the rising anti-immigration movement.
The Luton-born, Spanish-residing English “patriot” could be due to have his Irish passport revoked due to The Passport Act which allows the Irish Government to revoke the passport if they knowingly provide false information to immigration or pose a threat to The State. Robinson is currently fleeing from the UK as an arrest warrant has been issued for him due to comments surrounding refugees.
