ØXN Drop Haunting Visual for ‘The Trees They Do Grow High.’
ØXN are back with a spine-tingling new music video for their take on the folk ballad, and it’s a dark little masterpiece. ØXN are a spellbinding four-piece made up of Radie Peat (of Lankum), Katie Kim, and Spud Murphy and Eleanor Myler from Percolator. Together, they twist and stretch traditional folk into something darker, stranger, and totally their own.
Premiered as part of First Cut Film Festivals YMVC programme, the video is directed by rising talent Cathal Eustace, who brings a ghostly stillness to the track’s slow-burning heartbreak. Shot entirely in the historic no.12 Henrietta Street with the help of Lafayette Photography’s eerie props, the film leans into the song’s 18th century roots while giving it a distinctly unsettling, modern edge.
ØXN known for twisting traditional fold into something raw, experimental, and otherworldly, reimagine the 1972 ballad (originally penned by Robert Burns) as something both timeless and totally now. The result is a video that feels like a séance. It’s intimate, claustrophobic, and quietly devastating.
The video is officially out tomorrow, June 20, but you can watch the exclusive premiere below.
