Irish Photography Is Finally Getting the Big Stage It Deserves

Words: Izzy Copestake

This month, something big is happening in Dublin’s art scene. The Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) is opening its largest-ever group photography exhibition. The result is A R C H I P E L A G O, a major survey of contemporary Irish photography, and a huge moment for the medium in Ireland.

The show is curated by Davey Moore and brings together 17 artists, from rising voices to established names, exploring everything from identity, landscapes and migration to the ordinary beauty of everyday life.

This is a milestone for photography in Ireland. It’s the largest group photography show the RHA has ever staged, and a rare chance to see this many significant Irish photographers under one roof. The works sprawl across the space, taking full advantage of the vast Main Gallery in ambitious and unexpected ways. This is a chance to see some of our favourite photographers, such as Shane Lynam, Eimear Lynch, Daragh Soden.

A R C H I P E L A G O runs from September 12 to October 26, 2025 at the RHA Main Gallery, 15 Ely Place, Dublin 2. Admission is free.
