This Irish Fashion Brand Are Approaching Golfwear From Another Angle

Golf is a true gentleman’s sport. They say the biggest business deals are made on the golf course, and the formality of that culture tends to mirror the clientele who enjoy the sport. Bold Golf is an Irish brand which has kept the prestige of Golfwear, whilst subverting the formality surrounding it. Gaining momentum on a global scale, we delved into what is it about Bold Golf that catches the eyes of the masses.

“We love the game, but not the dress code” As a team, we grew up immersed in golf. The game has a deep history, and as a result, the gear felt stuck in the past. Our approach was always to create the clothing and bags that we’d actually want to wear on the course. It’s become about carving out a way for others to play the game in a way that feels true to them, too—players who see golf as part of a bigger cultural mix, blending sport, streetwear, and art.

As we often see with Irish brands, Bold Golf have been able to build a cult following outside of Ireland through their sleek social media and grassroots collaborations. Utilising the international network of artists, the brand has continuously collaborated with creatives across the globe.

“We kicked things off with UK-based street artist Penfold for our launch, bringing two one-of-a-kind hand-painted golf bags to the market. The first bag took inspiration from iconic cigarette branding, with Penfold bringing his signature smoke forms to our very first golf bag.” Both bags released under this collab have been met with love, selling within 48 hours of dropping.

Collaborations are a tricky process, finding those who align with your core creative values as well as satisfying your audience can be difficult to navigate. Crafting authenticity between these collaborations is almost as important as the visual elements to the pieces.

“With artist drops, we give them a sense of who we are as a brand, but ultimately let them drive the creative concept for the collaboration. Putting trust in talented artists is a process which usually pays dividends. We’re constantly looking to streetwear as inspiration for our approach, but our process is built around lasting quality.”

Looking ahead, Bold Golf are dropping their newest collaboration with Kathy Ager, who is known for her work in the realm of life drawing, taking from 17th-century aesthetics. The 19 February sees this 1 of 1 piece drop alongside limited prints and crewnecks.

“being independent also means we can move differently—collaborate with who we want, take risks and build a brand that actually shifts the culture. That’s what keeps it exciting.”
